If I ever have a band or any incarnation of an Indie hip-hop faction, it will have this name.
My brother and I were trying discover the magic behind the naming of white rock groups… I mean The Click Five, My Chemical Romance, The Fray, The Mars Volta, Maroon 5, Death Cab For Cutie, Steely Dan (not exactly ‘rock’ but you get it)… it is so weird and cool at the same time.
So the name of my group will be the title above, seriously, and then I’ll have some Spinal Tapian explanation of why I got that name.
I mean why not have a catchy weird name that everyone will remember and not know why…
I recently fell in love with The Clash’s Rock the Casbah… that quirky song in that phone commercial that the two guys were singing and on guy says …”really, man I thought they were saying lock the cash-box…” it was a riot, because that’s what I thought they were saying too and then one day I was in a store Foot Locker I think and they had it playing so right then and there I waited for the end of the video to get the name, and then when I realized it was the Clash that was even better….
I’m not a hardcore fan, I wouldn’t dare for fear that dedication to it would consume my very life and being.. but it’s something about the way groups like them (The Ramones, The Killers, The Donna’s, The Knack—pretty much anyone who starts with T-H-E). The way they stroke a guitar….It’s almost boy-next-door erotic. I mean not like Prince, or Hendrix, or Stevie Ray Vaughn (oh God no, it might a Cardinal Sin to listen to them, how good it is) but it’s so charged— I can feel electrons in my hair start to perk up.
Speaking of This is Spinal Tap that is one of the funniest movies I have seen. It’s got this odd Spam-a-lot feel to it. I’m convinced that’s where Fear Of A Black Hat and subsequently CB4 came from (Straight outta Low Cash haha)…
Also with that, British comedy is hilarious so anything with a BBC flavor is pretty much a gas to me.
So FYM and good nite….
(note F in FYM stand for ‘forget’ in this instance and the M well you just gotta make up something)
Also: My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade is a little sad—ok quite depressing but well done. If you like Tim Burton and the Who and Pink Floyd (you’ll probably like this).
